"I too desired that Spain should no longer be ruled by a stupid, intransigent minority, immersed in its own blind egoism, prolonging its anachronistic existence only with violence."

He was in jail from October 5, 1934 to June 10, 1935, eight months, four days, and three hours, a span of time he would instantly recite in later years whenever asked about this experience. He was in jail for hosting, in his studio, the revolutionary committee which had intended to oust the government.
