The

Three Exemplorary Novels

by

Cervantes

In 1950 a new translation of Cervantes' short novels, translated by Samuel Putnam, came out. The book was very well received and was titled Three Exemplary Novels. Once again my father's illustrations adapted to the mood and meaning of the writing and caught the scenes of Spanish life very accurately, without any of the satire that had been appropriate to the Swift or the humor appropriate to the P&Q books. The three short novels were: Rinconete and Cortadillo, Man of Glass, and The Colluquy of the Dogs.

Here is a sampling from the 23 etchings which appeared in the book.
